Salmon Sushi Roll

In order to make a salmon sushi roll you will need:

  • a standard bamboo mat
  • a plastic wrap
  • a nori sheet (edible seaweed sheet)
  • about 75g of salmon (this is per roll)
  • avocado (about a half per roll)
  • cooked rice (about 150g per roll)

Preparation:

First, you should be aware that you can change the amount of salmon, avocado, and rice depending on your preference. At the very beginning, you should put your bamboo mat on the table and wrap it with the plastic wrap. This is supposed to prevent the rice from sticking and to allow you to easily clean the mat once you are done. Take a nori sheet and cut it in half. You can accomplish this with a knife or with a pair of scissors. Take half of the nori sheet and put it on the mat, the shiny side of the sheet should be facing down.

Of course, if you want to make a larger role, you don’t have to cut the sheet at all. However, it might be easier to roll a smaller sheet. After that, you should grab a fistful of cooked rice and spread it evenly over the nori. After you are done the layer of rice should be about one cm high. Now you should flip the nori so that the layer of rice is facing down. At this point, you need to take your salmon and line it along the end of the nori sheet. It is very important to use large chunks of salmon and you don’t need to cut it into small pieces. Also, make sure the salmon is placed in a straight and even line.Philadelphia roll sushi with salmon

Also, you can put a few slices of avocado on top of your salmon. If you are preparing your sushi for later, let’s say tomorrow, perhaps you should squeeze some lemon juice on the avocado just to keep it fresh. Now you should grab the bamboo mat and roll it inside out. After you are done, you can cut the roll into pieces. You can, of course, cut it into as many pieces as you want. A smart way to do it is to first cut it in half, then cut those two pieces into two, and so on. In the end, when it comes to your final touch, you have all the freedom in the world. You can arrange your rolls in any formation you like. You can cover them with some teriyaki or soy sauce. You can combine them with some pickled ginger or wasabi.

California Roll

For the California roll you are going to need:

a cup of uncooked white rice

– a cup of water

– 50 milliliters of rice vinegar

– one tablespoon of white sugar

– 100 grams of finely chopped crab meat

– 50 milliliters of mayonnaise (optional)

– nori sheets (edible seaweed sheets)

– two tablespoons of sesame seeds

– a cucumber (it should be cut into thin spears)

– two avocados (they should be peeled and sliced)

Preparation:

First, you should wash the rice and change the water several times. Drain it properly and put it in a covered pan and then add one cup of water. Let it reach the boiling temperature and then reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 15 minutes. Eventually, you should turn off the heat and allow the rice to absorb the rest of the water, this process should last for about 10 minutes. After this, you should mix the vinegar and sugar in a separate bowl and stir the mixture into the rice until they are well combined. Let the rice cool down and set it aside. Combine the mayonnaise and crabmeat in a separate bowl.

Then cover your bamboo mat with the plastic wrap, then put a sheet of seaweed on the bamboo mat. The shiny side of the seaweed should be facing the plastic. Take the rice you prepared earlier and spread it evenly over the seaweed. You should leave a half-inch of seaweed uncovered at the very edge of the sheet and in turn, will make it easier to roll it. Now take a tablespoon of sesame seed and spread it over the rice and flip the sheet over. At this point, you should put two cucumber spears and two slices of avocado together with some crabmeat onto the nori sheet. Make sure they are placed in a line that stretches across the sheet. Finally, roll the bamboo rolling sheet tightly so that it forms a cylinder that is about two inches wide. You can now cut the roll into one-inch pieces.California sushi style rolls

The Dragon Roll

Ingredients:

– two cups of rice

– two nori sheets

– 10 shrimps

– one avocado

– one cucumber (it should be long and even)

– some Tempura

– 50g of Tobiko

– 50g of barbecued eel

Preparation:

You can start by mixing the tempura with some water and stirring until you get a thick mixture. Take your shrimps, cut their tails off and dip them in the mixture one by one. You should fry the shrimps for 30 seconds until they become golden on the outside. Slice the avocado and cucumber into even long slices. Now spread the rice all over the nori sheet and flip the sheet over. Put your avocado and cucumber on the sheet so that they form an even line across the sheet. On top of that put some shrimp and some slices of eel and roll the sheet inside out.

In the end, you should spread some Tobiko on the roll using a small spoon. Cut the roll into pieces using a sharp knife. Dragon rolls are usually served with some teriyaki sauce but there are also various sushi toppings you should consider using.
